This is a fine old 84-page heavily illustrated tourist guidebook to the Rhine-Main area in Nazi Germany, “the land of spas and good wine”. It has historic and practical tourist information in the English language about cities and idyllic villages, spa towns and vineyards for tourists traveling by car, bus, train or by ship on the Rhine or Main river.
The 7-3/4 x 8-1/4 inch softcover 1938 guidebook has heavily illustrated chapters on Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Bad Nauheim, Bad Homburg, historic ruins, medieval castles and walled towns, churches and cathedrals, the wine industry, river travel, etc.
Interspersed in the text are beautifully illustrated maps of the districts that make up the Rhine-Main area. Inside the back cover is a map especially for travelers by car showing the Reichsautobahn, smaller highways, rivers and borders (last photo below).
This original 86 year old English language German tourist brochure was damp on the right edge at one time but was dry when it was carefully stored flat and away from light. It is in very nice used condition - bright colors, no writing, no tears, no odor.
Above, note the Zeppelin and Ju 52 in the upper left hand corner of this map of the Main river. Hitler used this same Junkers airplane during his 1932 election campaign.
The Rhine-Main airport is pictured as are two zeppelin airships (one with the name Graf Zeppelin on it), the first stretch of the Hitler’s Reichsautobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt, half-timbered houses, castles, master craftsmen, farmers, quaint scenery, a river cruise ship with swastika flag in front of Loreley Rock (picture shown right), etc.
The front and back cover of this duotone brochure has watercolor art by Ferdinand Hofmann. It was published by the Landesfremdenverkehrsverband Rhein-Main eV (State Visitor Traffic Registered Association Rhine-Main), printed in Germany and it is dated 1938.
This original 1938 English language Rhine-Main tourist literature is for
sale for $75.00 delivered by Media Mail in the continental USA.
