As in America where portraits of Franklin Delano Roosevelt were commonplace during World War II, the likeness of the leader of Germany was to be found everywhere in that country. In virtual parallel with the FDR image in America, Hitler was seen as the man who brought the country back from the brink of disaster and should be in power for life.
Artists, photographers and publishers were very quick to fill the need for likenesses of the Nazi Führer and Germany's 23rd Chancellor, Adolf Hitler. Hitler's personal photographer Heinrich Hoffmann was from the beginning one of the premier sellers of Hitler portraits and scenes, and while expensive, his work was found on the wall of many homes and offices in Nazi Germany.
This is a 100% original photographic portrait print of Adolf Hitler called Der Befreier (the Liberator) dating to the time of Der Anschluß, the reunification of Austria with Nazi Germany in the spring of 1938. The photo is by Heinrich Hoffmann, and on the back is copyright information, publishing information and the address of Photo-Hoffmann of Munich. This 167 mm x 225 mm photo portrait was their catalog number 22.
Shown left (for reference only), is an original Third Reich Heinrich Hoffmann catalog sheet, advertising for this exact photo.
This is a silver gelatin photo print which is hard to photograph due to silver reflection in the photo emulsion. As is obvious in our photo of the back shown left, there is glue residue as well as writing by a young person who found this souvenir photo in Munich in August 1954, just nine years after Hitler's death. There is a crease in the upper right hand corner of the photo as well, that some may think looks like a tear in the photo, but it is not torn.
This dramatic Hoffmann photo portrait of Adolf Hitler is absolutely guaranteed to be 100% original to Third Reich Germany. It is
NOT any sort of postwar copy. This photo also appears in the Hoffmann photo book of Adolf Hitler portraits called
Das Antlitz des Führers. This is a rare opportunity to buy a genuine Hoffmann Studio original photo of Hitler!
