This is the 29 May 1943 issue of the 12-1/2 x 19 inch, 8-page illustrated Murthaler Zeitung (Mur Valley newspaper) published weekly in a town with the unlikely name of Judenburg, Germany.

The town name is even more unlikely when one reads the headlines of the two lead articles on page 1

Following those major articles is news from the various theaters of war and other news of general interest. Some of the other headlines are City of Sofia Bulgaria Expels all the Jews, The” Tiger” of Leningrad, NS Frauenschaft Postnatal Care Workshop in Judenburg, etc.

There are “want ads”, display advertising, death notices, and thanks from those who benefitted from the kindness and sympathy of friends at the time of the death of a loved one.

The Murthal or Mur river valley is a beautiful and mountainous place just west of Graz in what is now Austria. Because of its location, towns in the Murthal became US Army Air Force “targets of opportunity” for heavy bombers which for any reason were unable to drop their bomb loads on Graz, Wiener Neustadt or other Nazi industrial targets in Grossdeutschland. A rare newspaper in very good condition.

This newspaper is very similar to the one above with the exception of the news in it. The headline reads Europe Pulls Together.

Another headline on the front reads High Casualties for the Allied Murder Squadrons. Lots of advertising and announcements of fallen soldiers. Very good condition.

5 JUNE 1943

This newspaper is also very similar to the one above with the exception of the news in it. The headline reads Shameless Lies of the British Fire Bombing Headquarters: Barbarians and Destroyers of Culture.

There are other headlines for articles about News from the Battlefields, and Reichsgrenadier Division Hoch und Deutschmeister. Lots of war-time advertising and announcements of fallen Wehrmacht soldiers.Very good condition except for a small piece of the bottom of the front page which is missing.
