Der Sieg im Südosten (Victory in the South-East), is subtitled "An Account of the Battles of the German National Army in Serbia and Greece". It is a rare and remarkable hardcover Nazi photo book by Friedrich Heiss with military and political commentary by Oberst Rudolf Ritter von Xylander and Dr. Günther Lohse.

This Third Reich book contains remarkable photos of SS officers and men, Nazi Fallschirmjäger (paratroopers), Gebirgsjäger (mountain troops) Wehrmacht aircraft, vehicles and equipment, Generals and Field Marshals, etc.

Der Sieg im Südosten covers the German Balkan Campaign, the actions of the Wehrmacht in Serbia (part of Yugoslavia)and Greece starting in the spring of 1941. After a short introduction and explanation of the situation in Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece, and other southern European countries, the text and maps outline the invasion, its challenges, battle progress and victory on the mainland and on the island of Crete.

The amazing images in this 8-½ x 9-¼ inch, 236-page hardcover book are excellent and seldom found in other Third Reich photo books. They are gritty, and show German military officers, men and equipment up-close, as well as the logistical challenges of moving equipment and men in muddy conditions and rough terrain.

 Published by Volk und Reich Verlag in Berlin in 1943, this rare 76 year old example of Der Sieg im Südosten: ein Bericht vom Kampf des deutschen Volksheeres in Serbien und Griechenland is complete and in very nice used condition, with only minor damage on the spine, and a bit of shelf wear. No odor. On the front flyleaf there is even a stamp showing that this book was once part of the library of a Waffen-SS school, shown right.
