Like a lot of German tourist information, this brochure is not specifically dated in order to make it possible to be used several years in a row.
On this USMBOOKS web page we offer an early Third Reich booklet with information for travelers to Munich, Capital of the Nazi Movement. It is not dated on the cover but the history section mentions the importance of the city to the National Socialist movement and that it is Adolf Hitler’s Wahlheimat or chosen home. It also has a picture of das Mahnmal der NSDAP, the Nazi Party commemorative monument on the side of the Feldherrnhalle where the November 1923 Nazi Putsch ended.
The heavily illustrated 4-1/8 x 8-3/4 inch, 24 fold-out page “Welcome to Munich” brochure starts with a short history of the city, followed by things to see and do. Museums, palaces, churches and other public buildings, suggested itineraries for city tours or walks, and general information about opening hours, public transportation, travel agencies, post offices, etc.
Also included is a two-sided leaflet with special events during the year 1934 which include the special Munich art exhibition in the Glaspalast from June through September, July Cavalry Days, and the Munich Wagner- and Mozart Festival from 9 July - 20 August 1934.
The condition is remarkable considering this material was produced for tourists ninety years ago. It is in very nice condition, no writing, no odor.
This material is part of a small lot of brochures collected in Nazi Germany by relatives of a very prominent and high-ranking Nazi official in the 1930s and early 1940s. With the purchase, the buyer will receive an in-depth printed recap covering the very interesting provenance of this 3. Reich Reiseprospekt or tourist brochure!
There are also suggestions for day trips to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Berchtesgaden, Schleißheim Castle at Dachau, Mad Ludwig’s castle at Neuschwanstein, Oberammergau, Chiemsee, etc.
The 16-inch wide double page spread in the middle of the booklet has a map of Munich pointing out major attractions such as the Sterneckerbräu (“Birthplace of the NSDAP”), Zirkus Krone, the Führerbau and NSDAP Braunes Haus, Feldherrnhalle, Bavaria Monument, City Hall on the Marienplatz, Schloß Nymphenburg, Prinzregententheater, as well as the Hofbräuhaus (which opened at 9 AM!) and many other beer halls.
This 90 year old Munich tourist information comes with a 16-page booklet listing Empfehlenswerte Firmen or recommended companies such as banks, pharmacies, bookstores, breweries, flower shops, gas stations, insurance companies, dance halls, sport equipment sellers, rental car agencies, opticians, etc.
