This fine Third Reich Gildemeister & Ries advertising catalog is undated, but we suspect it dates to the later 1930s, definitely pre-World War II.

It was printed by Grossdrückerei Carl Werner in Reichenbach iV, a town in the Vogtlandkreis in Saxony. The fine piece of Third Reich ephemera was carefully saved flat and away from light since 1945 and is in very nice condition with bright colors.

Männer tragen Seide translates as “Men wear Silk” and offered on this USMBOOKS web page is beautiful color advertising by Gildemeister & Ries of Bremen, an old German trading company, mainly dealing in textiles. The brochure encourages men (and women) to wear silk every day, not just on special occasions and advertises pricey silk men’s shirts.

The 8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inch, 4-panel catalog lists silk shirts, pajamas and robes in ivory and other colors as well as with stripes. Short and long sleeve shirts are offered for men and women, and all are listed with their prices in Reichsmarks (worth 40 US cents each). The silk clothes were expensive!
