This is a rare original two-sided Newsmap Volume 2 Number 46F that measures 35 x 46-3/4 inches and is dated 6 March 1944.
This genuine 78 year old Newsmap for the Armed Forces is from the 234th week of the war, 116th week of U.S. participation and was prepared for Army Orientation Course, M.S.D. by Army Information Branch, M.S.D., A.S.F., 205 E. 42nd St., New York 17, N.Y.
The fantastic full-color side shows Luftwaffe uniforms for officers and men in great detail: Luftwaffe flying suits, leather flying helmets, life jackets and pilot boots, Fallschirmjäger uniforms, paratrooper camo coveralls and helmets, boots and gear, as well as uniforms worn by FLAK and Signal troops and even a Construction Corps uniform for a Luftwaffe Colonel. There are images of Luftwaffe helmets, visor caps, mountain and field caps, sleeve insignia, Nazi paratrooper medals, boots, belts and belt buckles.
The other side of this rare early March 1944 Newsmap has text that describes military action on various war fronts in Western Europe, the Soviet Union, Finland, Italy, Burma, Southwest and Central Pacific.
A very interesting map shows the late February 1944 battle lines along the Russian border and Rumania, and German occupied Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland. This 78 year old map shows the area of the current Russian invasion of Ukraine well!
There is also map of Central Italy and interesting photos of rows of US gliders prior to departure from England, General Dwight D. Eisenhower and RAF Air Marshal Arthur Tedder listening to a US tank officer explaining a target, captured Luftwaffe personnel, destroyed Japanese airplanes at Dauga Airfield in New Guinea after an attack by USAAF B-25 bombers, Lt. Eugene R. Hanks of Gibbs, Idaho in his Grumman Hellcat fighter, U.S. combat cars and more.
