Die weite Welt (The Wide World) was a photo magazine published in Berlin for Luftwaffe personnel starting in the year 1941. We offer a total of 16 rare issues from 1943 and 1944. The 1943 issues thru issue 17 of 1944 were published by the Wehrbetreuung der Luftwaffe (Support Services of the Air Force) in Berlin and starting with issue 18 of 1944 the publisher is shown as the Nationalsozialistischen Führungsstab der Luftwaffe (National Socialist Leadership Staff of the Air Force.
Each magazine has chapters on one major topic, illustrated with pictures, graphs, maps and illustrations. For example, Heft 10 of 1943 is completely dedicated to the United States (“the continent of excess”) with somewhat negative articles about the country’s history, politics and trade. It includes interesting graphics about European colonial territories and America’s inventory of gold (above). The back cover has pictures of the Armed Forces of the USA .
The heavily illustrated magazines measure 10 x 13-1/8 inches, consisting of ten or twelve pages and this lot consists of the following rare World War II issues of Die weite Welt:
Issue 10 of 1943, Issue 18 of 1943, Issue 24 of 1943, Issue 26 of 1943, Issue 1 of 1944, Issue 3 of 1944, Issue 6 of 1944, Issue 7 of 1944, Issue 11 of 1944, Issue 12 of 1944, Issue 17 of 1944, Issue 18 of 1944, Issue 19 of 1944, Issue 20 of 1944, Issue 21 of 1944 and Issue 22 of 1944, for a total of 162 pages.
