1943 Heinrich Hoffmann photo book Wir Arbeiten Bei Junkers
Wir Arbeiten Bei Junkers: ein Bildbericht vom praktischen Sozialismus eines deutschen Industriewerkes im Kampf um das neue Europa
Wir Arbeiten Bei Junkers (We Work at Junkers) is an especially rare Heinrich Hoffmann photo book produced for Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke AG, the famous airplane manufacturer in the city of Dessau, Germany in 1943. This is the German language edition (other editions were published for Junkers’ many foreign workers with the text in German-Russian and Dutch-French) with 110 heavily illustrated pages. The subtitle translates as “A Photo Report of Practical Socialism at a German Industrial Company in the Fight for a New Europe.”
Special 1943 Heinrich Hoffmann photo book Wir Arbeiten Bei Junkers
Wir Arbeiten Bei Junkers starts with 16 pages of text about the enormous positive changes in Hitler’s Germany since 1933. Changes in German society and its social structure, changed ideas about community, improved living and working conditions for all men and women in Nazi Germany. Social and welfare programs, healthcare, leisure and sport possibilities and job opportunities for all have created a true Volksgemeinschaft - a National Community.

Junkers working for Nazi Germany and Europe

According to this book, everybody working at Junkers has been a contributor in the great company tradition, and in wartime the contribution is even more important as the destiny of Germany and peace on the European continent is at stake! “Together and For Each Other! is how work is done at Junkers, co-creators and pioneers in a new, bigger era!”

This rare 7-½ x 10-¼ inch Third Reich book was published for Junkers in 1943 by Heinrich Hoffmann Verlag of Munich, and thus its extreme rarity. The 80+ year old original dust jacket was laminated by a previous owner to preserve it. The book is complete and in nice used condition, has no writing it and no odor. The front fly leaf has a small 2 x 2-¼ inch Ex-Libris bookmark.

The Junkers company, founded by “world-renowned Hugo Junkers”, was part of that national change. Research, new inventions, increased production due to reliable, well-trained and well-cared for employees was one of the reasons Junkers was awarded the prestigious NS-Musterbetrieb (Model Nazi Enterprise) distinction in 1938.

Wir Arbeiten Bei Junkers of course, has pictures of airplanes and airplane engines, and many of the fine photos focus on clean modern offices and research departments, new female employees being welcomed and instructed, happy and healthy Junkers employees during a company organized bus tour, foreign laborers from France, Belgium and the formerly Soviet East and the multi-lingual company announcement boards for them, special health precautions for employees working in the paint and varnish department, the company kitchen where healthy meals were prepared for employees, Junkers apprentices, ....
