Die Körper der SS, Ideologie, Propaganda und Gewalt translates as "The Bodies of the SS, Ideology, Propaganda and Violence". This literal translation of the title is a roundabout way of explaining the content of this beautifully produced German book about a period in German history that is uncomfortable for modern-day Germans and even museums to deal with.
This is all superbly illustrated with many color and black & white photos of period newspapers, magazines, books, paintings, porcelain statues (including the Allach SS-Fechter), research material, SS uniforms and helmets, a SS-Totenkopf ring, Germanic jewelry, etc. The images show how preoccupied the National Socialist regime and SS were with Körper or bodies of superior, Nordic Aryan people and how the racial policies permeated every day life in Nazi Germany.
There color maps of Wewelsburg Castle, beautifully photographed SS material, Reinhard Heydrich's death mask, photos of anti-Semitic Third Reich signs and material, eye color charts and glass examples from a Nazi racial research laboratory, BdM girls playing sports, SS fencers, Aryan mothers and their children, colorful Germanic tapestries, examples of many Nazi magazines dealing with race and ancestry, etc., etc.
Die Körper der SS, Ideologie, Propaganda und Gewalt is the very heavily illustrated guidebook produced for a special exhibition that took place at the SS Castle Museum in Wewelsburg from June - September 2016. The exhibition focussed on the importance the SS placed on 'racial hierarchy'. These racial criteria were part of everyday life in National Socialist Germany and the book explains this in heavily illustrated chapters about the early years of the Nazi Movement and their racial policies during the Third Reich in Germany which focussed on the elite SS and the alleged superiority of German armed forces, the necessity of exercise to obtain healthy citizens, thereby creating a healthy, superior and eternal German nation.
There is even an interesting illustrated chapter about the misuse of the Third Reich approach to racial purity after World War II by neo-Nazis, in advertising, etc.
This 8-¼ x 11 inch, 136-page glossy, softcover book was produced by Erik Beck, Kirsten John-Stucke, Markus Moors and Jörg Piron and published in 2016 by the Kreismuseum Wewelsburg (located in the former SS guard building next to Wewelsburg Castle). It was printed in nearby Paderborn, Germany. In unread condition, no odor.
This fine Wewelsburg SS exhibition guide book is ** SOLD **.
