Sechs Fronten von den Schlachten des Heeres (The Six Combat Fronts of the Army) is the title of this very rare World War II German Hitler Youth magazine called Heeres-Hefte für die Hitler-Jugend (Wehrmacht Army Booklet for the Hitler Youth) as published by the Reichsjugendführung der NSDAP and the OKH (Oberkommando des Heeres or High Command of the Army). This is the June/July 1943 issue about the German Army fighting on six fronts. The striking cover illustrations by Soldat Kurt Salaw has the six battle areas marked on the map of Europe with red crossed swords.
Interspersed in the text are photos, illustrations and pen & ink sketches of battle scenes, soldiers in action, bunkers, Nazi motorcycles, DAK tanks, Wehrmacht artillery and horses, etc. All of them are attributed to the war correspondents and men in the field who produced them on the last page.
The last chapter is called Der Kampf geht weiter or "The Battle Continues". The text states that a lot has changed since the “eighteen days in Poland”. The continent has acquired a lot of battle scars during the fight for the destiny of Germany. But the work that was started in Poland has to continue, even under difficult conditions against an enemy that manages to mobilize more men and weapons seemingly without end. In the secret to German success will be combination of leadership, technical superiority and the mentality of the soldiers. “The German Army fights! It is our revolution! It is the fight of the German Youth, which after four war years is still willing to follow the Führer fanatically, ending with Victory.”
This heavily illustrated 6-½ x 9 inch, 48-page publication starts with a chapter on the 1 September 1939 Wehrmacht invasion of Poland, continues with victory in Norway and the West and the start of the German military offensive in the Balkans and Greece. Another chapter covers North Africa before Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union.
This is a very rare World War II Hitler Youth publication, a true piece of Third Reich ephemera that was never meant to last into the 21st century. This near 79 year old example of Heeres-Hefte für die Hitler-Jugend is complete and in good used condition, with the name of a previous owner under the title on the front cover. No odor.
