Nazi Postal Minster Wilhelm Ohnesorge
Dr. Erich Körner of the Reichspostministerium in Berlin wrote about the foundation laid by Heinrich von Stephan that was being used during the Third Reich by the Deutsche Reichspost. The expansion of the postal banking system, mail distribution, telephone system, broadcasting, and the important work done by Nazi Postal Minster Wilhelm Ohnesorge to make all of this more accessible for average German citizens, not just a privileged few.

This 7 x 9-5/8 inch, 196-page hardcover Nazi book has a foreword by Reichspostminister Dr.-Ing. Wilhelm Ohnesorge, 120 pictures interspersed in the text as well as 32 gravures.

The fascinating pictures show modern mail sorting facilities, uniform collar insignia of Deutsche Reichspost employees, the communication role of the Deutsche Reichspost during large events in Nazi Germany (such as the 1936 Olympic Games and the Nazi Party Days in Nuremberg), modern broadcasting equipment and telephones, new postage stamps, the steamship Bremen with Amerikapost (bags of mail destined for America), modern postal busses (that carried mail and passengers), and the new Deutsche Reichspost employee education facility in Zeesen (east of the Nazi Wehrmacht military complex at Zossen, 25 miles or so south of Berlin).
This 85+ year old book is complete and in very nice used condition, and has no odor. Great photo content not found in other Third Reich publications.

Der Generalpostmeister Heinrich von Stephan und die Deutsche Reichspost, von Stephan bis heute is a very interesting illustrated 1938 Nazi book about the German Postal System, starting with its founder Heinrich von Stephan in the Bismarck era to the Deutsche Reichspost of Hitler’s Nazi Germany. It covers the history of the German postal system into 1938 in different areas of Germany, including its postal workers as well as the importance of the Deutsche Reichspost for the German economy.

Die Deutsche Reichspost von Stephan bis heute was published by Verlag für Sozialpolitik, Wirtschaft und Statistik Paul Schmidt of Berlin in 1938. The hardcover book has a decorated linen spine and has the name of the original owner written in pencil on the title page. The buyer of this book will also receive a Nazi newspaper clipping from 1942 about the 70th birthday of Reichspostminister Wilhelm Ohnesorge, left in the book by the original owner.
There are pictures of new post offices in Berlin as well as the alpine-style post office on the Obersalzberg above Berchtesgaden built in 1935 to accommodate the increase in mail sent by curious visitors to Adolf Hitler’s Berghof.

There are also great photos of mobile post offices set up at the 1936 Olympics, 1937 Reichsparteitag and Harvest Festival at Bückeberg, even special mobile post offices set up all over Berlin for the 20 April 1937 birthday of Adolf Hitler so people could have their special Führer-Markenblocken stamped!
The book was written by Martin Bartholdy and Oberpostrat Dr. Körner. Bartholdy wrote the historical chapters about Generalpostmeister Heinrich von Stephan, the man who reorganized and standardized the German Postal Service and was involved in the founding of the Universal Postal Union. He was also instrumental in the introduction of the postcard to Germany in 1871 as well as the telephone (in cooperation with the Siemens company).
The Deutsche Reichspost as part of the Reichspostministerium modernized the postal, telephone, radio and television system in Nazi Germany, and even the world. Their operations and network expanded greatly with the return of the Saar to Germany in 1935, the reunification with Austria in 1938, and the expansion of Greater Germany with the Sudetenland, Bohemia and Moravia, Memel, the Generalgouvernement and Poland, and additional countries after the start of World War II.

Have a look at a rare multi-lingual guidebook for the Postal Museum in Berlin, a 1943 Deutsche Reichspost instruction manual for Nazi Postal Bank customers, as well as Deutsche Reichspost decorative telegrams and Nazi Postal District Maps for sale on USMBOOKS.com.  We are happy to combine shipping of multiple purchases!
