1936 Winter Olympic Games, Ludwig Hohlwein
Official Publication of the Publicity Commission for the XI. Olympic Games
The 1936 Winter Olympic Games were held from 6-16 February in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Bavarian Alps. The event was heavily advertised in Nazi Germany and abroad and offered on this USMBOOKS web page is a rare English language version of the heavily illustrated Official Publication of the Publicity Commission for the XI. Olympic Games.

Famous German artist Ludwig Hohlwein of Munich designed the striking official poster for the IV. Olympische Winterspiele which was also used for the cover of this rare 9-7/8x 13-3/4 inch, 32-page magazine.
Well-known companies advertised in this Olympic Winter Games 1936 publication. They include Hamburg-Amerika steamship line, the Berchtesgaden Tourist Office (advertising the area as “A Fairy Land of Ice and Snow”), Staatliche Bernstein-Manufaktur of Königsberg in East Prussia, Nordstern insurance company and even refreshing Odol mouthwash for athletes.

This rare 88 year old Official Publication of the Publicity Commission for the XI. Olympic Games is in very nice used condition. It has the stamp of the Groger Travel Bureau in Cleveland, Ohio on the front cover. No writing, no odor.
There are pictures of the Olympic ski jump, the construction and steep curves of the bob-sled run, the ice stadium in daylight and at night, Scandinavian cross-country athletes, Sonja Henie (above)and Karl Schäfer as well as other figure skaters in action, etc
The 88 year old sport publication also has Olympic announcements about the opening ceremony, the Olympic flame, accommodations for the press, the number of participating countries (23), and the possibilities of (non-competing) regular tourists to ski and skate in the area during the Olympic Games.

Event schedules for both the Winter and Summer Olympic Games are listed inside the back cover.
